The appellate judges partially upheld the prosecutor's complaint and applied a pre-trial detention measure in the form of custody to the former acting director of the Ministry of Defense department, Oleksandr Liyev.
This was reported by the Anti-Corruption Center.
Liyev was taken into custody in the courtroom. The detention period is until April 8 inclusive. The alternative bail amount is 50 million UAH.
If bail is posted for Liyev, he will be subject to a number of obligations, including wearing an electronic bracelet and surrendering foreign passports.
It is known that this concerns a case regarding the conclusion of a contract for the supply of 100 thousand anti-tank mines. In November 2022, the Ministry of Defense transferred 1.34 billion UAH in advance payment to the Lviv Arsenal company.
Subsequently, part of the funds, amounting to $3.6 million and 9.1 million euros, were transferred to a Slovak intermediary, Sevotech. Most of them then went to the accounts of another intermediary, the Croatian company WDG Promet.
Now these funds have disappeared, and no mines have been delivered.
The Anti-Corruption Center writes that during the hearing, it became known that the investigation in the case has already been transferred from the National Police to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.
It is noted that Liyev admitted that at some point something might have gone wrong in the business relations between the Lviv Arsenal, Sevotech, WDG, and the Croatian plant that manufactured the mines. He believes that this should really be investigated, however, neither he nor other officials of the Ministry of Defense had any relation to these relations and could not have had any.
The Prosecutor's Office of the Prosecutor General's Office requested to set bail with a bond of over 268 million UAH.
